Celebrity Rat Trap
A downloadable game
You have been cast on the upcoming season of Celebrity Rat Trap, where 12 washed up D-level stars live together under 1 roof, endure 24-hour surveillance, and perform humiliating challenges to compete for a $500,000 grand prize (and 30 minutes of rekindled fame).
Every other person competing against you is either younger, prettier, wealthier, or more popular online. Winning is unlikely, but going home is unthinkable. No one knows who you are, but maybe that could be to your advantage- this is your opportunity to reinvent yourself for the public. To walk on-stage as someone worth watching. Someone worth remembering.
This is it. This is your last chance. Don’t let them forget you.
Celebrity Rat Trap is a solo journaling RPG inspired by competitive reality shows and explores the equally tragic and comedic themes of desperation, celebrity, tabloid scandals, and the hollow pursuit of fame.
This game uses a 6 sided die, pencil & paper, and whatever medium works best for journaling your experience in the game, (A word document, a blog, webcam, notebook, etc.)
A printable player-sheet is available for convenience in organizing your gameplay, as well as a blank variant for the option of further customization of your own original housemate opponents.
The game's PDF can be printed double-sided on 3 standard printer sheets with narrow margins. Gameplay typically takes approximately an hour start to finish.
- Celebrity Rat Trap is partially based on the system created by M.Kirin for the original ONE PAGE LEFT.
- While playing, feel free to listen to the game’s official playlist!

Played this today and had a great time with it! Great balance of character building and game action, really quick and efficient to set up and play. I'm especially thankful for how sparse the rules are, so I could spend more time playing the game instead of learning how to play!
The dice were really on my side: I dodged elimination easily, got rid of enemies and then made new ones, had some lovely friendships (RIP to 56-year-old Roman, who was also an artist's muse, with tattoos), played out a lot of the "just pretending to be a celebrity" storyline, and in the end I won the game against a very entertaining flat earther Meena. (Right after losing a debate to her, but you know how fickle TV audiences can be.)
Really slick and entertaining, with a palatable balance of entertainment and treachery. I'm already itching to play again! Thanks!
That sounds amazing! I've never gotten further than second place before in all my play throughs! Now your character has to return for an all winners season.
I've had so much fun playing this today. I've currently made it to Week 4. I've got a solid group of friends, some enemies, and no dignity. Love this game.
Someday I'd love to make a zine comprised of people's players and stories from their games. Love to hear people enjoying it!!
This game is such a love letter to Reality TV competition shows. The layers are fascinating because you're playing a game about playing the game and soon enough you find yourself immersed in both. The mechanics make you feel something about your fellow competitors (good or bad) even as you struggle to win over an audience that will never really get to know you.
I've played several times and once I got into it I was happy I played. And there's definitely replay value, which is great.
